English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
The CSLC is proud to offer a unique and multifaceted academic English support program for international students. The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program offers a variety of language support and enhancement resources to help international students succeed.

English Language Support for International Students
The Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures’ EAP Program is a unique academic support initiative for international students that offers targeted services to support English language skills in all linguistic modalities but with a particular emphasis on writing. The goal of the program is to empower international students to maximize their success through targeted teaching, tutoring and self-study resources. Although the program is intended primarily for graduate students, undergraduate students are also welcome to attend workshops, participate in the program blog and take advantage of tutoring and consultation services.

The EAP Workshop Descriptions & Schedule
The EAP Program provides weekly thematic workshops on topics ranging from advanced English grammar, to rhetorical style, academic genre, linguistic register, reading/listening strategies, pronunciation techniques, etc. Each workshop session is led by a EAP Program Fellow and incorporates weekly tutoring sessions and a weekly EAP Blog in order to provide workshop participants with opportunities for follow-up and individual or small group feedback. All EAP Fellows receive training, mentoring and support through the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures’ EAP Fellows’ Seminar and Mentoring Program.

The EAP Tutoring & Consultation Services
The EAP Program also provides individual tutoring and consultation services to international students who are struggling with particular areas (pronunciation, grammar, diction, etc) or applications (writing, presenting, teaching, etc) of academic English. Tutoring and consultation is provided by EAP Fellows and is intended to assist students as they identify the source of their academic English difficulty while recommending resources and solutions to address it. While EAP Fellows cannot proofread papers or help you complete assignments, they can provide detailed linguistic feedback to help you improve your academic English use immediately and continue to advance in your proficiency through targeted software, error correction techniques and sustained practice.

The EAP Interactive Blog
The EAP Program Blog is an interactive online resource and community for international students. The EAP Blog is moderated by EAP Fellows and the EAP Director. It provides custom articles on academic English acquisition at Notre Dame, reviews and discussion of weekly workshops with video and downloadable guides and daily tips for language use and campus resources with multimedia links and access to online and CSLC software applications. The Blog is also a virtual space for discussion. Anyone can post a question and receive feedback from expert instructors as well as fellow international students.

The EAP Fellowship
The EAP Fellowship provides coursework, tuition waivers and academic stipends to doctoral students pursuing coursework in English and foreign language disciplines. EAP Fellows are chosen via a competitive application process and provided with formal coursework, practicum experience and mentorships prior to their service in the EAP Program. All EAP Fellows have significant experience teaching coursework at the post-secondary level and often formal language teaching experience as well.
