Notre Dame hosting five Fulbright foreign language language teachers

The CSLC will serve as a support and resource center for five Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants for the coming academic year. The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program supports international educators improve their teaching skills while increasing their knowledge of the United States. The Notre Dame FLTAs will teach undergraduates in the Arabic, Chinese, Irish, Japanese, and Portuguese programs. In addition to their classroom duties, each FLTA will be serving as a language tutor as well as hosting co-curricular activities at the CLSC.…

First Notre Dame Fulbright in Ireland

Caitlin Myron Fulbright in Ireland

In January 2013, we profiled Caitlin Myron, the Department of Irish Language and Literature's standout student, for our outstanding foreign language spotlight series. At the time, Myron was just applying for a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant position in Ireland. Early this summer, Myron was selected. She is only one of two American students to be selected, and Myron is the first Notre Dame Irish language student to have received the Fulbright honor in Ireland. Myron has been settling into her position as a Fulbright and in her Masters Degree in Modern Irish program at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Fulbright foreign language teachers get 'Americanized' at Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame is hosting its eighth annual Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) orientation for the coming academic year, bringing foreign language teachers from 28 countries to campus Aug. 5 through 8 (Monday through Thursday) for a series of workshops designed to enhance their teaching in the United States. The program also will introduce them to important features of American culture in preparation for their teaching experiences across the country.

Most of the scholars participating in this year’s orientation have never been to the U.S. and will participate in workshops covering everything from how to prepare a syllabus to the rules of American football. See the schedule of events for a complete list of workshops as well as other orientation details.
