Link between Biodiversity and Linguistic Diversity

Over the weekend, The Guardian published an article linking the world's biodiversity with cultural diversity. The article indicates that regions of high biodiversity density have greater cultural and linguistic diversity, especially diversity of indigenous populations. Conversely, regions of rich biodiversity that have been colonized (deforested, urbanized, and so forth) have seen dramatic declines in linguistic and cultural diversity.
