Cindy Alamargot, M.A

M.A. Linguistics, Oakland University
B.A. French Language and Literature, Oakland University

Cindy is an adjunct assistant teaching professor in the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures. She earned her Teaching English as Second Language Certificate as an undergraduate at Oakland University as a way to gain teaching experience before starting as a teaching assistant at Michigan State, where she would have worked towards an M.A. in French. However, she loved teaching ESL so much that she took a position teaching international students at Macomb Community College and decided to head back to Oakland University to earn a Master’s in Linguistics.

In addition to teaching in a formal classroom environment, she also taught in factories as part of Macomb’s community outreach program, tutored private students in libraries and coffee shops, and served for several years as a teaching consultant for an international language training company that only caters to business people and their families on a foreign assignment.

In her free time, Cindy enjoys volunteering at her children’s elementary school where she works with first graders who struggle with literacy and math.
