Designing and Teaching Online Courses

Online learning continues to grow in the United States and around the world. It is important to prepare graduate students and future faculty to teach online effectively. Graduate students are invited to participate in a six-week online course (1 credit) on how to design and teach online. The course covers online pedagogical approaches, design principles, and technological tools, and includes online hands-on learning activities and active weekly discussions.

By the end of the course, graduate students will develop online teaching skills and experience what it is like to be an online learner. They will also learn to use Canvas, a learning management system (LMS). There is no need to be on campus to take this course, as it is offered completely online. Participating in the program will require 4 to 6 hours per week of your time. A certificate will be awarded to those who successfully complete the training.

"Before this course, I thought that the quality of online courses was lower. I was completely wrong. Online classes can be just as good as in-person classes."
