Mara Josi. Literary Echoes. The Round-up and Deportation of the Jews of Rome
Sketches by Aldo Gay (1914 - 2004) portraying moments from the 1943 raid on the Roman Ghetto are accompanied by examples of engraved brass stones. The stones, known as Stolperstein memorials, were designed by Gunter Demnig (1947-) and are placed in front of the homes of former Holocaust victims.

Mara Josi is a FWO Postdoctoral Researcher at Ghent University. She completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2021 and held an IRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at University College Dublin (2021-2022) and a lectureship at the University of Manchester (2022-2023). Her first book, Rome, 16 October 1943. History, Memory, Literature (2023) was awarded the Premio Internazionale Ennio Flaiano di Italianistica. Mara’s work reflects her interest in innovative research methodologies and cultural approaches to the study of literature. She has designed interdisciplinary frameworks which merge notions of Holocaust and cultural memory studies with literary and trauma theory.
