Fostering a Community of Cultures Through Intercultural Competence

Areas of interest for presentations include, but are not limited to, the following questions:World language readiness does not just include being able to speak another language fluently. It also means understanding diverse perspectives, being able to communicate in a pluralistic world, and connect language and culture to other disciplines. This conference will bring together world language educators and cultural competence experts to learn and discuss how to integrate all aspects of world language readiness into higher education programs and courses.

  • In what ways can we reframe the role of foreign languages and cultures in higher education? 

  • What are the effects of teaching intercultural competence in the foreign language and culture classroom?

  • How do study abroad programs impact our students’ intercultural competence?

  • How are foreign language and culture classes and/or study abroad experiences helping our students develop their intercultural competence and empathy?
