Recipes from Across the World

Collaborating across languages and cultures is a key skill in today's world. Our question in the Center this semester was easy. How do you get multiple language departments, over 100 students, and a large international community to learn those skills?

Publish a book, of course!

Using Canvas, we created a project page that had the guidelines for creating their recipe pages. Students seamlessly joined the World Languages Cookbook course using a QR code. Then the faculty went to work. They shared a one-page handout with their students, and then the students went to work. Individually or in groups, students researched the culture of food and recipes from all over the world.

To create the pages, we used Canva! Students created their own pages using a template created by the Center and then added their own designs and style.

The results were incredible! Students took pictures as they tested the recipes. They researched recipes by exploring their own heritage or talking to people from their recipe cultures. They wrote about the history of cuisine, and many even translated their recipes into their target language. They shared their designs with the CSLC Media Team and then we put it all together.

The collection contains recipes from Chinese, German, Haitian Creole, Spanish and more!

The results speak for themselves! Download your copy today at the links below!

Hard copies are also available to view and checkout from our library in the CSLC offices in Bond Hall.
