Traditional Irish Music

Author: Denise Ayo

A few weeks ago, the CSLC hosted a Traditional Irish Music event at O'Rourke's Public House. The event featured songs in Irish and in English by accomplished singer, Celia Ní Fhatharta. Celia specializes in the sean-nós ("old-style") singing tradition which is a style synonymous with the Connemara Gaeltacht.

In addition to Celia Ní Fhatharta sharing her wonderful voice with attendees, Micheál Ó Conghaile, editor of award-winning Leabhar Mór na nAmhrán (The Great Book of Irish Songs), gave a talk about traditional Irish music, and our current Irish Foreign Language Teaching Assistant, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, played the uilleann pipes.
