Eun-Young Kim, who goes by “Julia”, coordinates and teaches in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program as well as Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program in the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures. Throughout her teaching career spanning over 20 years, she has taught a wide range of courses in ESL (English as a Second Language), EFL (English as a Foreign Language), academic writing, and applied linguistics. Before joining Notre Dame in 2022, she worked with would-be English language teachers as the director of MA TESOL and MA English programs at Andrews University for over ten years. Prior to her tenure at Andrews, she spearheaded an intensive English program at Southwestern Adventist University and taught English language courses to college students in Korea.

A native speaker of Korean, Julia is particularly passionate about empowering students, teachers, and scholars who use English as an additional language through her critical pedagogy and research. Her studies on global Englishes, second language writing, and the intersection of language and religion have been published in scholarly journals, such as English Today, ELT Journal, TESOL Journal, Assessing Writing, and Critical Research on Religion, among others. She currently serves as the book review editor for English Today (Cambridge UP).
