Biography

Teaching Professor (Korean), DUS (Linguistics program), Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures

Dr. Hana Kang holds a joint appointment from the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) and the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures (CSLC). She teaches Korean language courses as well as linguistics courses. Her research interests include foreign language acquisition, computer-assisted language learning, and language learner identity. She has presented research papers on the acquisition of Chinese characters by foreign language learners at various national conferences. She published a book chapter “Negotiation of Identities in a Multilingual Setting: Korean Generation 1.5 in Email Writing” in Reinventing Identities in Second Language Writing, National Council of Teachers of English. Recently, she received FRSP Initiation Grant ($10,000) for the proposal entitled: Language Learners’ Cognitive Processing and Production in Chinese and Korean Writing: The Analysis of Eye-Movement and Handwriting Tracking Data. Her current research projects also include investigating foreign language learners’ writing processes and bilingual speakers’ identity construction.
