Resources

Whether you are an EAP student or not, the CSLC facilitates several services available to the Notre Dame community, specifically non-native English speakers or international community members.

This page is meant to be a starting point to connect you with the resources that suit your needs. We encourage both native and non-native speakers to take advantage of these opportunities to learn, connect, and grow through the English language.

EAP Workshops

Zoom call

The EAP's online workshops provide international students, faculty, post-docs, visiting scholars, and staff the opportunity to improve their English language skills and cultural knowledge to support their goals. Each workshop is designed to be hands-on with opportunities for demonstration, discussion, and practice.

Most EAP workshops are hosted online via Zoom. Workshops for each semester are uploaded to the event feed on this page at the start of each term. If you are unsure whether you can attend or not, we encourage you to register anyway so you get notifications about the event or post-event recordings (if applicable, depending on the workshop content).

Conversation Partner Program

Multicultural students

The Conversation Partner Program is a free, volunteer-based initiative that fosters language practice and cultural exchange. The program pairs fluent English-speaking Notre Dame students with international students and scholars to engage in informal, one-on-one conversations and form friendships. This program benefits both partners by providing an opportunity to improve their language skills and gain a deeper understanding of a new language and culture.

Conversation partners decide on times and frequencies to meet that are convenient for them. We recommend a weekly or biweekly meeting through the end of the semester. Student volunteers participating in the program as part of a course assignment should follow the requirements set by their course instructors. Whatever time is decided, partners should agree on a consistent schedule.

Matches are contingent upon the availability of volunteers. You can read more about the program here.

If you are an international student/scholar and would like to be paired with a partner, please fill out an application.  If you would like to volunteer as a conversation partner for an international student/scholar, please fill out this form.

Note: Applications are not currently being accepted. We'll post updates by the third week of August.
