Each year, the CSLC hosts or facilitates several workshops of interest to language educators and support personnel.

Workshop Series: Name Pronunciation
Many of us struggle to pronounce names that sound foreign to us, and attempting to do so can make us feel uncomfortable or nervous. In such a situation, we may ask to use another "easier" name or a nickname. We may even avoid addressing the person at all. Unfortunately, doing so can make the person feel invalidated, excluded, and otherized.
This workshop series aims to help participants develop understanding and empathy for our peers, our students, and ourselves.
By the end of the hour, you'll have the new context to make meaning of naming phenomena, tangible linguistic knowledge and skills to help you more confidently and accurately pronounce names from the target language origin, and some takeaway resources to continue practicing on your own.
