Music To My Ears
Discover Community Service. Discover You.
This Course Will Not Be Offered in the Fall 2026 Semester. Stay Tuned for Future Updates on This Project.
The South Bend Symphony Orchestra is partnering with the CSLC to translate their website and promotional materials into multiple languages to be inclusive of our multilingual community here in South Bend. Whether you love and practice music or you are just intrigued by this service project, we have created the perfect one-credit course for you.
Students can register for this course to obtain hands-on, practical translation experience in their target language and repeat the course until the Orchestra's outreach target is met.
Native speakers are welcome to enroll. We recommend that non-native language learners complete at least the fourth semester (or equivalent) of their target language prior to registering for this service learning opportunity.
You will not attend a class in person but work on your assignments with a flexible schedule and adjustable deadlines. A faculty mentor and a CSLC tutor will be available to assist with any questions or issues you encounter in your translation service work.
You can start this project any time and work on it as little or as much as you choose!
As of December 1, 2025, the following languages have already been completed: Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Tagalog.
For more information, please reach out to Eun-Young ‘Julia’ Kim (ekim27@nd.edu), the CSLC director.
