Heidi Michelsen* will share some of her own story and then through word and music introduce Latin American religious music of the past 40 years, in English translation. These songs continue to speak to Latin Americans today and have much to offer people of faith in reflecting on current North American realities.

*Heidi Michelsen, a consecrated Lutheran deaconess, has lived and worked in Central America since 1992. Her work includes small parish based development and accompanying people through the process of post-war reconstruction. Heidi has volunteered extensively with Nicaraguan immigrants in impoverished urban communities while also working with student groups from North America. Currently, as the director of Praxis Center, she hosts study abroad and service learning programs for students from many US universities. She loves sharing her passion for Central American history and culture and serving as a bridge to facilitate student learning. She lives with her son in Casa Adobe, an ecumenical intentional Christian community.
