Metin Hakverdi, a German lawyer and politician who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag since 2013, will deliver a lunchtime lecture on the topic of Zeitenwende. He previously served as a Distinguished Visitor during summer 2019 at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies, John Hopkins University, and a John F. Kennedy Memorial Policy Fellow at the Center for European Studies, Harvard University, in 2020.
This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting 30 minutes prior to the lecture (at 12 noon).
Metin Hakverdi has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 and serves on the Bundestag’s Budget Committee as well as the Committee on European Union Affairs. He is the deputy chairman of the German-American Parliamentary Friendship Group, chairman of the USA discussion group of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag and member of the board of Atlantik-Brücke. Metin Hakverdi was a John F. Kennedy Memorial Policy Fellow at Harvard University and a Distinguished Visitor at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Before being elected to the Bundestag, Mr. Hakverdi was a member of the Parliament of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg from 2008 to 2013.
Hakverdi was educated in Germany and the U.S. He studied law at the Christian-Albrecht-University in Kiel and the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Prior to joining the Bundestag, he was a member of parliament of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg from 2008 to 2013, where he was on the Budget Committee and the Committee of Public Companies and Assets.
